Colleen E Crangle grew up in Zimbabwe and South Africa before moving to the United States to attend Stanford University. There she received a PhD in Philosophy (Logic and the Philosophy of Language and Science), in follow-up to a BSc cum laude and an MSc in Computer Science and Mathematics from South Africa. Her published works include 'Language and Learning for Robots' (1994) with Patrick Suppes, and articles in bioinformatics, philosophy, and computer science. An affiliated scholar with the Centre for the Study of Language and Information at Stanford University and a partner in a small R&D business in Silicon Valley, California, Colleen has a 21-year old son in college and an 18-year-old daughter, Blair, who will accompany her to the UK. She likes hiking in new areas and writing short fiction, and never misses an opportunity to sing. As the Fulbright-Lancaster Science and Technology Scholar at Lancaster University, she will do research on biomedical text data mining, developing computer methods to discover complex facts in natural-language documents.
