John Paterson joined Strathclyde Police in 1995. Throughout his 17-year police career, he has undertaken numerous operational and support roles.  At the present time, John is Head of the Prevention & Interventions Unit within Safer Communities where he oversees policy and strategy aimed at preventing offending by young people, tackling anti-social behaviour, managing offenders with addiction issues and wider crime prevention matters. John holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree, Post Graduate Diploma in Forensic Medicine & Science and is a Council Member of the Scottish Medico Legal Society. John’s other interests include cycling and clay pigeon shooting.  As  a  Fulbright  Police  Research  Fellow, John will  undertake  a  comparative  study  of  the methodologies used to tackle youth offending and violence.  During his time in the United States, he will work with the Boston Police Department in addition to conducting research at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
