Kylie Meyer is from Novi, Michigan and attended Kalamazoo College where she received a BA in Anthropology/Sociology and French. While at “K-College” Kylie found opportunities to volunteer as a companion for older adults with dementia, and engaged with statewide and national advocacy organizations addressing long-term care concerns. Most recently, she has been working on a grant project to make legal services more accessible to seniors in Michigan. Through these experiences and others, Kylie became concerned with the treatment of older adults in society, and sought out ways to study this. Between her junior and senior year, she completed a senior thesis on elder abuse while interning at the Kalamazoo Area Agency on Aging, which is how she discovered the field of critical gerontology. Her interest in this area led her to the University of Southampton’s Gerontology program, where Kylie will be spending one year learning about various aspects of aging.
