Rishi Caleyachetty was born in England, and raised by two nurses ― a father from Mauritius and a mother from Tanzania. He read medicine at King's College London and became interested in epidemiology during a trip to Mauritius where he saw communities with so much potential but were struggling under the large burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Rishi has also led a study describing the double burden of malnutrition in Mauritian children funded by the Faculty of Public Health Cochrane Prize. While working as a junior physician in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, he co-wrote a book chapter on childhood obesity prevention. Rishi then trained in epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and University of Cambridge. As a medical epidemiologist, Rishi's aim is the prevention and control of NCDs. During his Fulbright year, he will be a researcher at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health in New York.
