After graduating, he moved to Sana’a in August 2010 to work as a copy editor at the Yemen Times. When the Arab Spring uprising broke out in 2011, he turned freelance and was one of the few western journalists in Sana’a, reporting on the mass protests and military infighting that ended the 33-year rule of Ali Abdullah Saleh. His writing appeared in publications including the Guardian, TIME, Foreign Policy Magazine, The Economist, Wall Street Journal, Sunday Telegraph and Newsweek. He also worked as a special correspondent for Al-Jazeera and as a stringer for Reuters News Agency.  As a Fulbright Scholar, he will be completing an MA in Journalism and Middle Eastern Studies at New York University. His research will focus on the effects of the Arab Spring uprisings on America’s Arab diaspora.
