UK Summer Institute application instructions

We are looking for applicants from a broad range of backgrounds, who can demonstrate leadership through academic work, community involvement and/or extracurricular activities.

Academic excellence is also important, but we are looking for more than that. The best applications are from well-rounded students who have ambassadorial skills, a desire to further the Fulbright programme, and a plan to give back to the US when you return.

Choosing an Institute

There are several UK Summer Institutes available every year. Each Institute is hosted by a different university, and each focuses on a specific historical or cultural context, or a subject or topic. You do not need to be familiar with these to apply, and are encouraged to explore your interests.

Applying

  1. Read the terms and conditions before applying
  2. When applications are open, you can access the online form via the banner at the bottom of this page, and can save your application in progress
  3. Scan and upload your official interim transcript to the application form as a PDF
  4. Speak to two referees, and ask them to upload references on official, signed letterhead as a PDF via the online reference form

The application form must be completed, with transcripts attached, and submitted along with your references before the deadline. Your application will not be considered if any of these are missing or submitted late.

Interviews

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview in April. Summer Institute interviews are by Skype and can only be rescheduled under extreme circumstances.

Notification

All applicants will be informed of their status by late April. The Fulbright Commission cannot comment or provide feedback on individual applications.
