Meet John Marshall
at Harvard University
(2010 - 2015)
Who Takes It: The MCAT is required for entrance to most MD programmes in medicine.
Format: The computer-based exam is approximately four and half hours and includes four sections: Physical Sciences, Verbal Reasoning, Writing Sample, and Biological Sciences.
Dates: Remaining testing dates for 2011 are as follows:
Testing Sites: London
Cost: $305 USD
Registration: For the best chance at registering for your preferred test date or location, you should register and pay the appropriate fees on the MCAT website no fewer than 60 days in advance of the exam day. The official deadline is fourteen calendar days before the testing date and the test is administered in London.
How it's Used in Admissions: It is very important to do well on the MCAT, as it assesses the subject knowledge medical schools have deemed important for success. The average MCAT score of the previous year’s admitted class is a good indicator of your chances of admission.
How to Prepare: There are a wide variety of test preparation materials available in both online and hard copy formats. See our section on preparation for more information.
Students with Disabilities: Special accommodations may be arranged for taking most admissions exams. For more information, visit the MCAT website.
More Information: For more information on testing sites, dates and registration, please visit the MCAT website or contact the MCAT. You may also want to download our handout on Medical Education in the US.
