In June of this year, we hosted our inaugural TEDxFulbright event: TEDxFulbrightGlasgow, a day of engaging and thought-provoking talks from Fulbright grantees and alumni, on the theme 'Avenue of Hope'.
Held at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow on 25 June 2019, the talks were given in front of a live audience, with a livestream broadcast on the US-UK Fulbright Commission's Facebook page and website.
You can view videos of each of the talks here. Bios of the speakers and a programme of the day are available using the menu in the sidebar.
What is TEDx?
TED brings together the world's leading thinkers and doers to share ideas that matter in any discipline — technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, business, development. In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading," TED has created TEDx, a programme of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
At a TEDx event, live speakers and TED Talks videos combine to spark discussion and develop connections. Our TEDx event is not organized by TED Conferences, but is operated under a license from TED.
The Theme: Avenue of Hope
Senator J. William Fulbright once said, "The essence of intercultural education is the acquisition of empathy--the ability to see the world as others see it, and to allow for the possibility that others may see something we have failed to see or may see it more accurately. The simple purpose of the exchange program... is to erode the culturally rooted mistrust that sets nations against one another. The exchange program is not a panacea but an avenue of hope...".
TEDxFulbrightGlasgow featured a programme of positive thinkers, showcasing new, innovative and creative ideas worth spreading, that will inspire hope and optimism for our collective futures.
